3 Ways to Give Breath During CPR

When it comes to life-saving CPR skills, understanding how to provide ventilations is essential. In this post, we’ll talk about the different methods for delivering breaths during CPR, ensuring you’re well-prepared to act in an emergency.

Bag Valve Mask (BVM): The Healthcare Hero

For those in the healthcare sector, the Bag Valve Mask (BVM) is a lifesaving tool. Typically connected to oxygen, this device is commonly found in hospitals and medical settings. When using a BVM, remember the golden ratio: 30 chest compressions to 2 ventilations for adults. Tilt the head back, create a good seal around the face mask, and deliver two breaths—one, two—while watching for a visible chest rise.

Pocket Mask: Compact and Effective

If you’re not in the healthcare field, fear not; there are other options at your disposal. The pocket mask, similar in appearance to the BVM, provides a secure seal and efficient breath delivery.

Place it on the patient’s face and give two breaths using your own mouth, ensuring their vital oxygen needs are met.

Mouth-to-Mouth: A Last Resort

In situations where specialized equipment isn’t available, mouth-to-mouth remains a viable option. While not ideal, it can save a life when no other tools are present. Our online store offers affordable pocket masks, a convenient addition to any first aid kit.

CPR skills are a valuable asset in emergencies. Knowing how to provide ventilations using the available tools—be it a BVM, a pocket mask, or even mouth-to-mouth—can make a critical difference in a life-or-death situation.
